Oral Healthcare Initiative in Southeastern Ohio

Osteopathic Heritage Foundation of Nelsonville award helps create dental clinic in southeastern Ohio county

A $150,000 award from the Osteopathic Heritage Foundation of Nelsonville will help establish a dental safety net clinic to serve low-income adults and children in Vinton County. The funding to Family Healthcare's Vinton County Dental Clinic will equip three dental operatories.

With only one dentist for each 7,681 residents, Vinton County is designated a dental Health Professional Shortage Area. This has made dental care virtually non-existent for many area residents, especially those who are Medicaid-eligible, uninsured or underinsured.

"The Vinton County Dental Clinic will improve access to emergency and preventative dental care, meaning fewer missed work and school days for patients, and improved self-esteem," said Terri Donlin, program director for the Osteopathic Heritage Foundation of Nelsonville.
