OHFN and RCIF Announce Fall 2018 Funding Awards


The Osteopathic Heritage Foundation of Nelsonville (OHFN) continued its partnership with the Rocky Community Improvement Fund (RCIF), leveraging resources to support programs serving vulnerable populations in Nelsonville and surrounding communities.  

Since 2013, the Osteopathic Heritage Foundation of Nelsonville (OHFN) has partnered with the Rocky Community Improvement Fund (RCIF), providing matching funds to the charitable contributions made by Rocky Brands employees.  To date, more than $400,000 has been awarded through the partnership, supporting organizations in the Nelsonville, Ohio area focused on food security, education, human services and community improvement projects.  

The following organizations received funding through the partnership’s fall 2018 grant cycle:

  • American Red Cross: $1,000 to support the Home Fire Campaign, providing assistance to Athens County residents lacking operational smoke alarms.
  • Athens County Department of Job and Family Services: $5,000 to implement Operation Full Belly.
  • Habitat for Humanity of Southeast Ohio: $2,500 to launch a microfinance program in Athens and Hocking Counties.
  • Health Recovery Services, Inc.: $1,700 to expand exercise and fitness offerings for teenage participants in the Basset House residential drug treatment program.
  • Hocking-Athens Perry Community Action: $2,100 to pilot the Wellness Delivered program, providing diabetic and pre-diabetic patients with custom meals and education.
  • The iBELIEVE Foundation: $2,450 to support the 2019 Summer Leadership Workshop Series, providing scholarships for students from Athens, Hocking, Meigs, Morgan, Perry, Vinton and Washington counties.
  • Logan-Hocking High School: $3,000 to start a pantry providing clothing and personal hygiene items to students at no cost.
  • Logan-Hocking School District: $4,000 to support food pantries at each of the Project SAFE before and after school care program sites in the school district.
  • Millcreek Elementary School: $4,600 to support a leveled book room to increase opportunities for individualized reading instruction.
  • Nelsonville Food Cupboard, Inc.: $5,000 to continue the Backpack Program at Nelsonville-York Elementary School, providing students with nutritious food on weekends.
  • Vinton County Local School District: $7,169 to support Project Boost after school programming at three elementary schools.
  • Women for Recovery: $1,500 to support Serenity Grove Recovery House in converting an existing garage into a multipurpose community room. 

RCIF is a donor advised fund of the Athens County Foundation.  Organizations funded during the fall 2018 cycle were recognized at the Athens County Foundation annual meeting held December 6, 2018.
