OHF Funding Enhances Osteopathic Medical Education
The Osteopathic Heritage Foundation recently awarded the OhioHealth Foundation a $3.4 million grant to enhance post graduate osteopathic medical education within the OhioHealth Doctors Hospital Department of Medical Education.
“Our efforts to provide extraordinary medical education programs and exceptional service to the community is enhanced with this philanthropic support,” commented Michael Reichfield, president of Doctors Hospital. “We are very grateful for the continued and longstanding partnership and backing from the Osteopathic Heritage Foundation. With their support, our community is assured continued access to high quality medical care now and for generations to come.”
The Osteopathic Heritage Foundation has long supported programs and initiatives at Doctors Hospital, contributing over $51 million as the leading philanthropic contributor to OhioHealth.
The recent funding award will bolster Doctors Hospital’s medical education programs as the accreditation process transitions from the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) to the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). The required accreditation transition is a result of the merger between the AOA and the ACGME, to provide a single accreditation system for all post graduate medical education programs in the U.S. by 2020.
The funding will support two priority areas: medical education faculty support, including additional associates for administrative and management support to the department of medical education as well as training programs for faculty and staff.
“We are proud to support the educational programs at OhioHealth Doctors Hospital," commented Rick Vincent, president/CEO at Osteopathic Heritage Foundation. “Doctors has a proud history of providing residency and fellowship programs, graduating high quality physicians who serve the communities in central Ohio and beyond. Our funding and educational collaboration with OhioHealth helps assure the community is afforded quality medical care, research and continuing medical education opportunities for some of the nation’s best physicians.”
