In 2003, the Osteopathic Heritage Foundations (the Foundations) established obesity as a multi-year Funding Priority. The funding strategy is designed to contribute to system and organizational improvements through comprehensive planning, implementation and evaluation in selected communities and schools within the Foundations’ central and southeastern Ohio service area.
The Foundations seek the following overarching outcomes as a result of grantmaking investments in the Obesity Funding Priority.
- Advocacy efforts that result in additional support and leveraged resources to address obesity.
- Increases in the number of community coalitions, school districts and other groups that set and achieve collaborative goals to reduce obesity in their communities.
- Increases in the number and types of organizations that make policy and practice changes to support healthy nutrition and physical activity for individuals, families and the community at-large.
- Increases in the number of individuals and families that are physically active.
- Increases in the number of individuals and families that consume nutritious foods.
To accomplish these overarching outcomes, the Foundations will invest in certain obesity Initiatives.
